Family Services & Outreach

Family Services & Outreach

The Huntsville Community & Family Services exists to holistically serve and support those in our community in greatest need, give them hope and encouragement, as a means to promote self-empowerment and accountability.

We currently provide the following programing:

Community & Family Services

This program provides emergency assistance for food, spiritual counselling, shelter and other on a case-by-case basis. We are committed to maintaining a strong referral system and working with other community organizations to ensure clients’ needs are being met and prevent the cycle of homelessness. The development of community partnerships allow for additional occasional offerings and seasonal programs such as back to school programs and various opportunities for those we serve.

Emergency Food Provisions

The food bank is a program set to assist individuals and families with food items when there is an emergency need. The food bank is open Monday, Wednesday & Friday and clients are seen by appointment.

Effective May 1st, 2024 you must bring your own contain (bags, knapsack …) to package your groceries.

In addition to individual and corporate donations, a food drive (Project Porchlight) is held the first Wednesday of December to stock the shelves for the year to come and provide Christmas assistance (see below). We are always working on ways in which to improve our commitment to help others through the food bank.

We are always looking for dedicated individuals who have a heart for helping others. During the Project Porchlight Food Drive we are always in need of volunteers. Contact our main office to volunteer.

Case Management

We are currently looking at creating a program where there would be an expectation for those receiving ongoing assistance from the Emergency Food Bank to participate in a Case Management program. With the assistance of a worker, an Individual Program Plan is established and the client identifies issues/obstacles occurring in their lives. They then set goals and strategies, and their progress is tracked at 3 and 6 month points.

Christmas Assistance

We take applications from various individuals and families who are in need of assistance during the Christmas season. In response to their need we supply successful applicants with a food hamper and a turkey. Applicants who have children also receive a toy hamper for each child up to the age of 17 years of age.

Summer Camps

Summer camps reach out to a diverse age group. We are able to support members of the community in attending children’s camps and Moms’ and Tots camp, which provides the opportunity for fellowship and socialization to mothers and their children.
